Sea, sand dunes, the vlei, a floral sensation of rare fynbos plants, diverse antelope and the Potberg Mountains. Birders observe wading birds on the shores of the vlei while the Potberg Mountains are home to a colony of endangered Cape vultures. Hikers and cyclists have close-up encounters with bontebok, Cape mountain zebra, eland, baboons and ostrich. Activities at De Hoop Nature Reserve are diverse and guests choose between various day walks through the rich fynbos plains or along the deserted coastline, or mountain biking along the many gravel roads or scenic game drives. De Hoop Nature Reserve Activities
Every year, some 40% of the world’s southern right whales come to these shores to breed. Females and their calves swim in the clear waters, while males put on spectacular displays. These endangered mammals ensure that the De Hoop Reserve in South Africa, is one of the world’s best land based whale watching areas. As a marine reserve and World Heritage Site, De Hoop guarantees a safe nursery for these pods of visiting cetaceans. They come so close to the shore that visitors can relax on the unspoilt sand dunes, watching in awe as these beautiful creatures calve, blow, breach and belly-flop.

De Hoop Nature Reserve Cottages Reviews
Beach, open wilderness, single track, bird paradise, relaxing and peaceful. Happy family moments and quaint self catering cottages. Staff are helpful and accommodating. Drive down in a good car as dirt road gives car a beating! Highly recommend! – J K
We camped here for 3 nights and the view was stunning! Unfortunately you cannot swim in the dam as it is marine protected but there are two swimming pools to cool down in. We saw eland, bontebok and zebra and tons of birds who visited our campsite daily. Watch out for the baboons and lock everything away! – Lainey0401
One of the most beautiful places I have ever seen in South Africa, the beach is so clean and the sand is white. We had the best time and wished we had more days. The cottage was perfect, clean and fully equipped. Sunsets and sunrises are not to be missed. – Pumeza C
